UNN DEPARTMENTS IN HEADACHE AS ACCREDITATION OVERWHELMS ADMINISTRATIONS!!!

It seems like this week is really going to be a tough and hectic week for the administration of the University of Nigeria in a number of departments.

In a lecture last week, the HOD of my department was talking of people from NUC who were coming for the Accreditation/De-Accreditation of the various departments in  the school, probably the may also be coming to your departments or you must have heard of such. In short, he was telling us of the importance of being in the department during the accreditation process this week and also the need for us to try as much as possible to cover up for the lapses in the department, i.e in the area of the things that a necessary to be in place as a department for a particular field in order to ensure that we pass the accreditation, consequences of failure being that we may not be able to write our final exams in this school and also the final certificate we are entitled to at the end of our program will now come from the institution where we eventually write our final exams. I'm definitely certain that nobody will like that he spends four to five years in the University of Nigeria and ends up having a certificate that bears Nassarawa  State University.


Now my problem is that in covering up for the department in order to pass the accreditation, are we actually in the real sense of it doing ourselves good?  For instance, our HOD was complaining that we in computer science have always had issues with accomodation, i.e actual department building and stuff, and have been making request for a new seperate building, the department is also supposed to have some kind of digital labs and similar in addition to the ones the already have and all that, but it has in recent times proven to be a difficult task for the school authority to produce these requirements, but here is our HOD advising and pleading with is to cover up in the areas that there are lapses just to pass accreditation, and when this is done, things remain the same for another couple of years, until the next accreditation comes,

How about we all just fail this stuff and see if things get better? After all, Law department in UNEC once failed this exercise and in just a little while, the school authorities erected structures that a awesome and equipped them with all necessary requirements, out of shame though!!!
